A few months back I was contacted by Jason Brennan of Nish Media about my participation in the television program they are working on producing which will be airing on APTN in 2018. I love the title of this program, “Skindigenous.”

Check out their Facebook page for upcoming artists and air times and dates.

Nish media will be bringing a crew to film me and my work as a professional tattoo artist and cultural tattoo practitioner on November 3rd, 2016. So in a couple days. I am excited about the opportunity to share my work and hope that it will be an inspiration for others who are working at reviving their ancestral tattooing traditions.

The first day will be filmed in Salmon Arm at Vertigo Tattoos and Body Piercing, the tattoo studio that I work at. I am lucky to be part of the amazing team that works here, this shop is owned and operated by Carla Gosgnach, it opened in 1998, making it Salmon Arms oldest running tattoo shop. My work as a professional tattoo artists started in this shop back in 2009 and a large part of my success as an artist is due in part to the mentorship of Carla and the assistance which I received from Hannah Mancell, our body piercer and shop manager. In August of this year we welcomed to our team Martha Pranckuviene, joining us from Ireland.

The second day of filming will find us visiting the Nicola Valley Museum and Archive in Merritt, British Columbia and possibly visiting some of the beautiful scenic spots on the way from Salmon Arm to Merritt.

On the third day of shooting I will be doing my second community tattooing event, where I will be sharing the gifts I have been given with my community through hand poke and skin stitch tattoos. This is a photo from the last community event held earlier this year.

On the final day I will be traveling with some community members and sharing one of the gifts which the ancestors have left us, a pictograph site.

Stay tuned for news about my next trip to New Zealand as a member of the Earthline Tattoo Collective and the adventures we will be having as we collaborate with International Indigenous tattoo artists.
